A goblin jumps up and down in the car.
I’m driving, jumpy, talking on the phone,
eating trail mix, turning the radio on and off.
I can’t remember the call numbers
for the good radio stations
so I keep scanning and scanning but no song is quite
the one I want to hear.
I notice what I’m doing –
calling old friends, talking to myself,
and I stop everything.
I take the one headphone out of my ear,
turn the radio off,
say, without turning, what is it?
There are other beings in the car.
See, language is so strong. I don’t want to say the wrong thing.
