My Fascination With Mercedes by John Findura |
You ask about my fascination with Mercedes. I
explained it all to you with the number zero and
raised eyebrows. I want to talk about Adrienne now
but you keep bringing up Mercedes. I have counted
five separate occasions where I have said “Adrienne
and I…” and you cut in to say that Adrienne was a
waitress at a diner and she worked there with her
mother until she (Adrienne, not her mother) got
married and had three children and a big backyard.
Then you say that I must mean Mercedes, but maybe
I have just confused the names, and if that is the case
I have the wrong name tattooed across my heart. We
then have this conversation for three hours, twice a
week over the course of nine years. I get tired and give up.
Then you say Mercedes would never give up.
