Bodies Form, To/From Mothering Alphabet

Artist Statement

In my current work, Bodies Form, To/From Mothering Alphabet, I move with another, specifically my child and mother. I photograph our movement; print it in its stillness on paper, cutting out the silhouette, finding our boundary. Both negative cut out and positive image are utilized within the practice. I fill the form with what feels more like us than the superficial image. I play. We end being a joint body made of the same or similar material, residual dust, hair, cobwebs, lint, bread crumbs, flour, and threads. All of the material is collected through the “mothering” process of tidying up, (keeping home) collected, and exposed within the joint shape. Twenty-six symbols reveal another alphabet.
My work is continuous questioning of patriarchal, capitalist society and simultaneous awareness of everyday moments within my current mothering reality. I question not for the sake of questioning but to clarify a habit and more importantly to see other possibilities within each action.
